I highly recommend the Arabic course at Al-Diwan in Garden City. My teacher was inspiration, so patient with a beginner who knows nothing of the language. I studied Modern standard Arabic for 100 hours and although five hours a day was a heavy timetable it brought my reading to a reasonable level now! Recognize words, if not all the vowels!. The course materials were clear and  well taught out for the first time learner with plenty of pictures.
